Summer Classes and Training

July 8, 2026

Summer is not a break for college athletes. It is a balancing act. You have classes, summer workouts, and the pressure to come back in the fall stronger than everyone else. I have seen players burn out trying to do everything perfectly and I have seen others coast through summer and regret it in August. The difference is a plan.

Start with your schedule on paper. Block out class times, study hours, training sessions, and recovery windows. If recovery is not on the schedule, it will not happen. Most college athletes underestimate how much sleep they need when they are training and taking classes. Seven hours is the floor. Eight to nine is where you want to be.

Use the summer to build relationships with your academic advisor. They can help you choose classes that fit your training schedule. Communicate with your strength coach about your course load. If they know you have a heavy academic week, they can adjust your training volume. The players who handle both well are the ones who plan ahead and ask for help when they need it.
